The Benefits Of Swimming Lessons For Kids

It’s undeniable that every child should learn to swim, if only for the safety factor. Swimming lessons increase your confidence that your child will be able to handle an accidental fall into a pool or lake. Swimming programs are widely available, through community resources, such as the YMCA, YWCA and parks and recreation departments. These groups offer professional, certified teachers and lifeguards. Besides learning water safety basics, swimming lessons are a part of American summertime activities that kids most enjoy. Gaining a kid’s enthusiasm for such lessons isn’t a hard sell!

Let’s take a look at the many wonderful benefits swimming lessons offer, aside from the fun and your peace of mind. First, swimming is one of the best forms of exercise a child or adult can get. Almost every muscle is engaged during swimming. This is good for a child’s physical development and a strike against obesity. When kids take swimming lessons in early childhood, swimming often becomes a favorite activity for life.

Lessons begin with learning to hold your breath and progresses through floating and learning various strokes. It doesn’t take long to progress through these steps. With each new success, the child’s confidence grows. The child also gains an age appropriate sense of control of their own body, strictly balanced with a dose of good judgment in the safety department.

When kids play in the pool with other children, they learn teamwork in one of the best venues you could find. After all, these kids are having a heck of a good time. For example, a game of water volleyball gives the kids an opportunity to work with other kids for the good of all. In adulthood, teamwork is an essential key to success in the workplace.

Yet another benefit of kid’s swimming lessons is that they learn social skills. The child who refuses to share the ball in play is quickly corrected by both teachers and the other kids. This makes it far more attractive to conform to the rules of play. Why? The enjoyment of being in the pool with a bunch of rambunctious kids outweighs hanging on to that ball.

Swimming is a wholesome, healthy activity that fosters a healthy sense of competitiveness, based on a desire to succeed. This trickles through to the education process as well. Last, but not least, consider how much energy kids have. At the end of a day of swimming lessons and play, you’ll have a car load of tired kids! Every Mom can appreciate that benefit!

Go Green - The Incredible Hulk TV Series

The 80s were the days! Okay, that’s way too bold of a statement. Let’s try again. The 80s had a few cool things going on. Yeah, there we go. Now that’s more like it. One of these cool aspects of involves a little TV show. Well, technically it was a small series, but the cast was huge. I’m talking about the Incredible Hulk TV series. Yeah, you know you watched it. If you were around back then, you were checking out the Hulk and his terrible rages. It was awesome how he could lift anything and leap over everything. Heck, I was the Hulk. Wait, now I’m getting ridiculous. The Hulk has that effect on me at times. He makes me want to go lift weights or growl at someone. What can I say? I’m a Hulk fan.

Everyone has to remember the guy who played the Incredible Hulk. It was body building champion Lou Ferrigno. That guy was a monster. He was even bigger than Arnold was. I saw an old picture of them standing side by side online. No wonder he got the Incredible Hulk TV series. He deserved it all the way. Wow, was I ever little when I started watching that show. I think it began around ‘78 or ‘79. Around the same time as The Dukes of Hazard. Clearly the Incredible Hulk TV series was better. The Hulk would have crushed The General Lee. Besides that car is a little extreme for TV these days. Not too many people love the Confederate flag. Anyway, I saw the Hulk film that came out a few years back and was seriously disappointed. What in the world was Ang Lee thinking? That was a terrible leap from the phenomenal “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” epic. Not to mention that the Hulk was all CG. I don’t want computer graphics. I’m stuck on Lou being the Incredible Hulk. I want to see someone who’s real.

Well, the 80s have past and with them the Incredible Hulk TV series. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can never enjoy the Incredible Hulk TV series ever again. Hey, they play the syndication on random channels like Sci-Fi. Furthermore, if you’re truly a Hulk fanatic, you can see what’s available on DVD. I love the fact that they stick all these old shows on DVD. Don’t you?
