Sing A Song - Activity For Toddlers

Parents who have been down the toddler road before us claim that when a child is two-years-old that they are little terrors. My children are both teenagers now but I have to say the terror stage can last anywhere from a year to two or three years. Little people need to be kept busy so they can stay out of trouble, so finding an activity for toddlers that they really enjoy is always viewed as a bonus.

In my house music was always part of our daily life. From having the radio on in the morning to watching children’s programs filled with educational lessons in the form of a song. A great and interesting activity for toddlers is teaching them to sing. Obviously the material you choose to teach your preschooler can’t be too complex. You need to pick simple songs with just a few words that the child can pick up quickly. A fun one to start with is singing the alphabet. This activity for toddlers is not only fun for them but it’s educational as well.

After they’ve learned how to carry a simple tune you can add more songs to their repertoire. There are several software programs that parents can use with their children that teach them to sing-a-long by use of colorful graphics. Some of the old standards are being introduced to children this way and they pick up on not only the song, but also a few rudimentary computer skills as well. If you’d like to keep you child away from the home computer for a few more years, consider purchasing a DVD that includes songs for preschoolers. You’ll find this type of activity for toddlers DVDs in many toy departments of discount stores. Kids love watching television so why not make it something educational as well as appealing to them?

Some children are just born with a sense of natural rhythm. You can usually spot these children as they are the ones moving in tune when dancing to a song on the radio. A fun activity for toddlers with the rhythmically gifted child is to buy them a simple instrument to play. Perhaps small bongo drums, a harmonica or a percussion triangle. Although all the noise it provides may make mom and dad cringe, it’s a fun way for the child to express their blossoming musical talents.

Music is a perfect pastime for small children. They are uninhibited enough to dance at whim and they love singing out loud once they know the words to a song. Introduce music to your child early so it becomes a natural part of their life. It’s an ideal and welcomed activity for toddlers and children of all ages.

Buy When They Are Babies - Outdoor Playsets

If you have yet to notice, our children are spoiled. I should narrow this down a bit by specifying American children. I guess I can’t really comment on kids from other countries. All I know is that in America, kids get most of what they want. I’m not saying it’s a good thing either. In all honesty I believe it has created a problem. The problem is called SPOILED CHILDREN! I am just as guilty as the next parent. I look at my seven year old and all the toys she has. It’s absurd if I compare it to the toys I had growing up. Basically they were few and far between. I recall my parents buying us new stuff on our birthdays and Christmas. That was pretty much it. We didn’t complain either, because it’s all we knew. When you never had it, you don’t really miss it. Of course if you flip that statement, the opposite is true. I know how my child acts when she doesn’t get something. And then there are outdoor playsets. Who can even afford these?

One summer day, my daughter was sprinting through the backyard. She was entertaining herself, as she does a lot of the time. Then she approached me with a query about outdoor playsets. She was apparently noticing how great the neighbor’s was and she wondered why we didn’t buy one too. It must be a “Keeping up with the Jones” thing. Anyway, I wasn’t totally opposed to the idea of outdoor playsets. I did like them and have always loved the fact that my daughter prefers to be active and play outdoors. This is when my wife any I began looking into things.

After a bit of surfing on the web and flipping through the yellow pages, we had a place in mind that sells outdoor playsets. Unfortunately no prices are listed on the net or in the phone book. Well, we took our daughter with us and ventured out to speak with the company we’d found. The man showed us a few different models of fine wooden outdoor playsets and we actually liked them all. Any one of them would do. I inquired about the price of one and was dumbfounded when he told me $6500. YIKES! I like outdoor playsets, but not that much.

What are you willing to spend? This is clearly an issue at hand when shopping around for outdoor playsets. I may have been willing to spend around four grand on one in the past, but my daughter is already seven. Maybe if you’re going to invest in an outdoor playset, you should do so early on. This way it will get used to death.
