See The TV Without A Backache - Adjustable Height Table

Space has always been a problem in my apartment. It seems that we cannot get things to look good and fit well together at the same time. When we had a pretty little coffee table, it looked great in the middle of the room. It made everything fit well together. The only problem was that we cannot do any projects on it. It was at such a low height that when we tried to work on scrapbooks there, we both got terrible backaches and had to go lie down. When I tried to have a full sized worktable, I had a very different problem. There was no room for anything. It blocked the TV, which was a major obstacle since we love to have our friends over for movie night whenever possible. We really couldn’t resolve the issue until we got an adjustable height table.

You’d think that adjustable height tables would be a common invention. After all, if you live in an apartment with a limited amount of space, as many people do these days, there’s nothing that will solve your problems more effectively than an adjustable height table. But the reality of the matter is, it took us literally weeks to find one that met our needs. Most adjustable tables were flimsy things, meant to be set up quickly and quickly taken down. We didn’t need a card table, we needed an adjustable height table that was solid, that could handle books, computers, art supplies and other substantially weighty equipment. But I guess most of the companies that make furniture assume that if you want an adjustable height table, you are going for cheapness and portability over quality and stability. If you need all of these things, you’re going to have to look long and hard before you can find an adjustable height table to suit you.

We finally did find an adjustable height table at IKEA. It was everything that we looked for, well almost everything. It was well made, it was portable, it was easily adjusted. It was everything, in fact, except attractive. That was easily fixed with a new paint job. We painted it black and then pasted pictures in a collage pattern to decorate it. By the time we were finished with it, it looked beautiful. Now our apartment is almost perfect. We can use it both for hanging out and lounging around with friends and for getting serious work done.

Find Patio Furniture At Craft Fairs

Recently we put a deck on the west side of our home. Thinking this would be a great place to entertain guests, as well as to watch the sunsets from in the evenings. Part of the deck is shaded and the rest is in the sun. We wanted to purchase patio furniture that would be functional and comfortable for the space.

Shopping at several stores that feature patio furniture, we wanted to have comfortable chairs as well as a table that we could use to eat meals and play cards. There was a wide variety of tables. There were several high topped tables similar to those in bar settings. The chairs were bar stools. Some had backs and others did not. We were considering the high top table and stools with backs, but decided that the high table would block our view of the sunsets from the house. The patio furniture may be too noticeable from the road. We found that some of the comfortable chairs sat back too far from the table to eat comfortably or to play cards.

At first glance there seemed to be a large selection of patio furniture, but as we tried out the different models we eliminated each for one reason or another. We either found the chairs uncomfortable, or the pieces were too large for our storage area. Living in an area with harsh winter months our furniture needs to be stored. On our first shopping trip for patio furniture we did not purchase any.

We went to an arts and crafts fair at a local festival. Not looking for patio furniture, but this is where we found what we were looking for. One vendor used unique antique pieces of wood to create sturdy patio furniture that could withstand the elements in the winter. He collected the wood from all over the world. Some of the tables were made from wood that had previously been used in ox carts in Vietnam . There was wood from ancient Japan and other countries. He also had teak wood and other tropical woods that are exposed to high moisture and extreme weather conditions. The chairs were also made from wood and were very comfortable to sit on. The patio furniture was very heavy so we did not have to be concerned of it blowing away in the wind.

We purchased a teak wood set that came with a table and four chairs. There was also a matching bench that could be used separately and also pulled up to the table to create seating for six people around the table. We love our patio furniture. It is unique, comfortable and does not have to be stored in the winter months.
