Be Cool With A Window Fan
posted in Bedroom, Comfort, Heat, Summer |Air conditioning is a wonderful thing. This summer when I took my daughter on a road trip, the most welcome relief was the air conditioning in the hotels and the attractions we visited. It seems that no matter when I decide to go away from home, this is when the humidity decides to soar. We survived, but the air conditioning was definitely a bonus. When it comes to cooling my house, I prefer to use a window fan instead of an air conditioner.
When the weather is unbearably hot, I have no choice but to fire up the air conditioner. This is only when the heat is extreme. My preference remains with the simple window fan and there are a variety of reasons for this. One reason is cost. Not only will a window fan costs you less money, it also costs a lot less to run it. It is by far the most efficient way to cool your home.
That’s not the main reason I prefer a window fan. At night, while I sleep, I love to have a window fan going, even when it is not hot. There is something wonderful about the cool room and the fresh air that gives me a better night sleep. Even when the temps fall I like to have a window fan going, even if the other person in my bed complains about how cold it is in the room the next morning.
While air conditioning will indeed cool a room rather well, I don’t like the stale reconditioned air it produces. It seems to grab a hold of any scent in the room and simply moves it around. When I use a window fan, there is a constant stream of fresh air and odors are swept away rather quickly. This is especially true if you buy the type of window fan that has one fan blowing out and one blowing in at the same time. These cool faster and seem to work the best.
You can buy window fans anywhere you buy good for your home. They don’t have to be expensive to work well, but you do want a weather resistant model if you plan to keep your window fan going while you are sleeping. If it were to rain while you are sleeping, your window fan will get fried. Most models are weather resistant, but just make sure before you buy.
